Forest Elementary:
Parent Information

Note: this page was last updated in February of 2005

School Improvement: The staff at Forest Elementary is committed to providing the best educational opportunities for our students that we can. We know that we can accomplish this only through the combined efforts of the home, the school, and the community.

We will continue to encourage students to show a concern for others and their environment.

We also will continue to enhance the appearance of the building and grounds at Forest School.

Absenteeism: When a student is absent, the parent should inform the school of the absence. lease call Donna at 662-4921, and your child’s teacher at 496-3430.Excessive absences will be reported to the District Attendance Officer. Make-up work will be available when students return to school, or one day after a phone call requesting work.

Administration: Jeff Rogers, Principal; Donna Beard, Office Assistant

Arrival and Tardy Bell: Children are to arrive to school no earlier than 8:45 a.m. and to be in their classroom no later than 8:50 a.m. Supervision of the children will commence at 8:45 a.m.

Young 5's class will follow the above time schedule and be dismissed at 11:50 a.m.

Bus Regulations: It is the policy of the Bay City School District to provide safe, courteous and regular transportation services to eligible students. Each year, children receive a pamphlet entitled "Rules With Responsibilities on Buses," which lists specifically the rules children must follow when riding the bus.

Three (3) disciplinary phases are used for students not obeying the bus rules. Children are allowed three (3) opportunities to change their behaviors. If positive change does not occur, the privilege of being transported to school may be terminated for the remainder of the school year.

Cancellation or Delay of School: At times throughout the year, it may become necessary to cancel school because of inclement weather. There may also be fog delays. If there is a two-hour fog delay school will resume two hours later than usual. That means instead of the start time being 8:45a.m. it will be 10:45a.m. On two-hour delay days there is no Young Five’s class. If you suspect such a cancellation or delay, please listen to local radio and television stations.

Conferences:  A conference with a teacher may be requested by a parent for anytime which is convenient for both parent and teacher. Please contact teacher to schedule the conference.

Early Dismissal of Children: Parents are encouraged not to pick children up before 3:41. When it becomes necessary to excuse a child early the parent is required to: 1.) inform the school, in writing, in advance who will be picking up your child.  2.) Call Auburn School before picking up the child.

Emergency Information: Children sometimes become ill or have accidents during school hours. Auburn’s office and each classroom teacher must have on file an emergency card which gives parental direction on procedures to follow. It is imperative that two (2) current telephone numbers are kept on file. One number is the parent number, while the other number is other party to be called in the event the parent is not available. In case of phone number changes, please notify the Auburn’s school office and your child’s teacher immediately.

Head Lice: Head lice infestation is a continuing problem in many school-aged children. If a child is treated for head lice, they must be checked by the office before returning to class.

Hours: The school office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Our phone number is 662-4921. School is in session from 8:45 a.m. to 3:41 p.m.

Illness: Frequently, children develop illnesses which are of a communicable nature; i.e. measles, chickenpox, fifth disease, pink eye, strep-throat, etc. Children are to remain home and may return to school with a doctor's statement.
